About us

History

The Institute for Cognitive Neurology and Dementia Research (IKND) emerged in 2008 from the Clinical Research Group "Normal and Disturbed Cognitive Control of Memory Functions". The director of the institute is Professor Düzel, who is also the spokesperson of the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases within the Helmholtz Association in Magdeburg.

Research Focus

  • Neuronal basics of memory functions
  • Modulation of memory by reward, motivation and and novelty
  • Cognitive performance and their disorders in old age as well as in neurodegenerative diseases
  • Early diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases
  • Influence of exercise on cognitive performance in old age
